Residents of a waterfront skyscraper about five miles from the partially collapsed apartment in Surfside, Florida, were ordered to evacuate Friday due to structural concerns.
North Miami Beach Building Department officials said the 156-unit Crestview Towers were structurally and electrically unsafe and ordered residents to leave as a “precautionary measure” after last week’s nearby disaster that confirmed 22 people dead and 126 were still missing.
The North Miami Beach city manager ordered an audit of buildings more than 40 years old on Tuesday to ensure they were in compliance with local recertification regulations following the disaster.

A review found Crestview Towers non-compliant, and inspectors found structural defects in the building, which was constructed in 1972, nine years before Champlain Towers South.
“In a plethora of warnings, the city has ordered that development be closed immediately and citizens evacuated while a full structural overview is drawn up and the next steps decided,” said Mayor Arthur H. Sorey III.
The Red Cross worked with officials to protect residents.
