Miami Seaside Police and fireplace rescue obtain high-water autos for flood emergencies – NBC 6 South Florida

Miami Beach’s police and fire departments will now have a new high-water vehicle that will be used during flood emergencies.

Expanding their emergency preparedness, the two new refurbished vehicles, one for each department, were acquired due to a grant that was awarded to Miami Beach Fire Rescue.

First responders use these vehicles when there are incidents of flooding that could be a risk for residents and visitors, or when evacuations need to take place.

The vehicles will provide them with access to areas that are impacted by storm surge, heavy rainfall or king tides.

“This critical new addition to our fleet is another powerful tool to keep Miami Beach safe,” said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner in a statement. “While we continue working to prevent flooding, we now have greater capabilities to respond quickly and protect our community when severe weather strikes.”

In recent days, parts of Broward County have experienced flooding caused by king tides.

Hurricane season runs until November.
