Drunk Ohio man concerned in drug gross sales was arrested after an assault on a Miami Seaside hostel, police say

MIAMI BEACH, Florida. – A 21-year-old Ohio man stayed at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center Wednesday after witnesses alleged assault on a Miami Beach hostel customer. Investigators believe that the attacker was also involved in the sale of street drugs.

The victim told police officers that at around 2:25 p.m. on Monday at Beds n ‘Drinks Hostel on 1676 James Avenue, he was drinking when he noticed a belligerent drunk man whom police later identified as Jason Dyer-Mitchell .

Dyer-Mitchell of Heath, Ohio, drank vodka from a bottle of Ciroc and was loud and obnoxious before the unprovoked attack, police witnesses said. A video from a witness shows the threatening assailant standing at a dining table while holding a silver sharp object behind him.

“The defendant had a nail between his knuckles and hit the victim with it,” one officer wrote in the arrest report.

Dyer-Mitchell slapped the victim in the face and neck at least twice, and after knocking him down he yelled at him before leaving the hostel with a bottle in hand, according to the arrest form.

Several witnesses intervened. Three followed Dyer-Mitchell, called 911, and one stayed on the phone until police found him.

Dyer-Mitchell was wearing a red T-shirt and gray shorts, still holding the bottle of vodka and carrying a black backpack full of cash and illegal drugs, police said. The witnesses identified him as the man in the attack on the inn.

An officer handcuffed Dyer-Mitchell outside Paul, a French bakery on the corner of Lincoln Road and Drexel Avenue.

Dyer-Mitchell faces charges of heavy battery with a lethal weapon, possession of ecstasy, possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, and possession of an open container of alcohol.
