Man arrested for assaulting and stabbing tourists in Miami Beach – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) – Officials arrested a man who was accused of stabbing another man with a nail in a South Beach cafe.

A tourist from Argentina was having lunch near the Chatham hostel on James Avenue on Monday afternoon when a man indiscriminately attacked him.

According to the police, the attacker had a nail between his knuckles and hit the victim with it.

“He tried to pierce me with a nail,” said the victim.

Blocks away from that crime joined the Miami Beach Police Department.

When the man in the red shirt was followed, he looked around to find an officer with a gun and another handcuffed by his tail just yards from the petrified food stalls at Paul Bakery.

Before the attack, the victim said he was minding his own business.

“I was like a normal lunch,” said the victim. “All of a sudden, I’m hit in the back of the head. I was pretty shocked. “

Witnesses at the inn took this terrifying picture of a man with a barbed object in his fist, behind his back.

He is accused of punching and piercing the tourist’s neck and head before running away.

“He ran towards Lincoln Road,” said the victim.

The attacked man had help in the hostel from strangers who witnessed the battery.

“They decided to help immediately,” said the victim.

“He ran towards Washington Street,” said Diego Vesga, a good Samaritan.

Vesga said he and another person followed the nail punch while they were on the phone with emergency services.

“My friends are talking to the police here,” said Vesga.

The attacker ran to Lincoln Road near Drexel Avenue. It’s also where the police raced.

“The police came by,” said the victim. “Thirty seconds, the police go in, shut the guy on the street.”

Shortly before the takedown, the victim and the Good Samaritans said the attacker had a bottle of vodka.

“We threatened with it, so we kept our distance,” said the victim.

The attacker, Jason Dyer Mitchell, was arrested and charged with grievous assault with a lethal weapon and other criminal offenses.

Miami Beach police said they had confiscated the vodka bottle and drugs. The attacker had ecstasy and marijuana.

He was also charged with multiple drug loads, along with the battery loads.

He is currently incarcerated in Miami-Dade County Jail.
