NORTH MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) – A person was taken into custody after a chaotic confrontation with police officers – simply away from a restaurant where Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber dined.

Officials responded to the scene near the Lucali restaurant on Bay Road in 1930 on Wednesday night.

The officers were first stopped by a local resident who mentioned that the person was threatening him and others.

According to an arrest report, the person threatened to “cut their throats”.

“It was a hand grenade that was ready to go,” said the spectator who witnessed the incident. “The guy is going crazy, screaming and screaming profanity.”

A cell phone video captured the person yelling at the police.

The man mentioned that the arrest when the police arrived was a mess.

The police wrote about their arrest report that the suspect was “getting closer”. [their] marked vehicle and quickly became verbally aggressive and said ‘F *** A ** N *****, I’ll F *** YOU UP.’ “

“‘BOOM!’ You tried it twice and it wasn’t even alarmed, ”said the witness.

Ultimately, the arrest became physical. However, the cell phone video does not show the arrest.

Officials arrested Travis Hawthorne and charged him with assaulting a police officer.

While the arrest subsided, Gelber ate dinner on tiptoe.

The witness mentioned that he had asked the mayor to get up from his desk and attend the police incident, but Gelber remained seated.

“He’s the top cop, after all,” said the person. “He is the chief of police, along with his colleagues on the commission. If, on that one night when he was in the wrong place at the right time, he could see what they go through every day, it would have been priceless. “

7News spoke to the mayor, who mentioned that he was aware of the person in question and that he described himself as the police and chief of police and had an officer arrive minutes later.

The mayor also told 7News that the person who took his picture was loud, threatening and verbally abused as he had dinner with his household. He mentioned that he didn’t have to come outside and be part of the spectacle when the person was arrested.
