MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) – More than a thousand customers in part of Miami Beach are left without power as crews repair several buildings in the dark the day after a fire at a Florida Power and Light substation.

FPL officials said the fire at Indian Creek Substation started around 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

Miami Beach Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene of the fire in 54th Street and Collins Avenue.

FPL turned off power along Collins so crews could use foam to extinguish the flames.

The cell phone video shared by a 7News viewer captured several buildings in the area with no electricity.

The dropout extended from 50th to 70th streets.

Nobody was hurt.

FPL officials said they expected to restore power during the night hours, but an equipment problem resulted in 1,044 customers without power as of Sunday evening.

FPL officials said they are working closely with local police and firefighters and are committed to restoring power as soon as possible.
