Miami Beach is the world’s most expensive place to stay on New Year’s Eve, according to a survey by CheapHotels.org.
With an overnight price of $365 for the cheapest room, Miami Beach went to the top of the rankings. The survey compared hotel prices in 50 major cities around the world. For each destination, the price was recorded for the cheapest available double room for a 3-night stay from December 30th to January 2nd. Only centrally located hotels with at least three stars and mostly positive guest reviews were considered.
While much of Miami will ring in 2022 with lavish parties and top-notch musical performances, the area will also host the Orange Bowl semifinals of the College Football Playoffs between the No. 2 Michigan Wolverines and the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs on New Year’s Eve. The semi-final matchup, to be played at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, officially sold out hours after tickets went on sale.
The report also found that Cancun is the most expensive non-US city at a rate of $228 per night and ranks it 5th overall. In addition, the Scottish capital of Edinburgh ($221) is the most expensive European tourist destination, while Rio de Janeiro ($206) in Brazil when the most expensive city came out Latin America.
The survey results also show how the COVID-19 pandemic is still having a significant impact on hotel prices around the world. For example in Dubai and Sydney, both of which were among the most expensive destinations for New Year’s Eve accommodation in 2019, prices are between 40 and 50 percent lower this year. In Hong Kong, prices have fallen even further, by a staggering 70 percent.
Next to Miami Beach, New Orleans ($304), Nashville ($284), New York ($275), Honolulu ($264), cancun ($228), Las Vegas ($225), Edinburgh ($221), Rio de Janeiro ($206), The angel ($205) rounded out this year’s top 10 most expensive places to stay in the world for New Year’s Eve. The prices displayed next to each destination reflect the nightly price for the cheapest double room for the period from December 30th to January 2nd.
