North Miami Seashore turns into the primary metropolis in Miami-Dade County to declare June 19 a public vacation

NMB is the first city in Miami-Dade County to consider Juneteenth as a paid vacation for its employees.

“This recognition represents where we are and where we are going as a diverse and vibrant community,” said Commissioner Joseph. “I’m looking forward to celebrating June 19th North Miami Beach as an official city holiday. “

Several local civil rights activists attended the commission’s meeting, including Stephen Hunter Johnson, Chairman of the Miami-Dade County Black Affairs Advisory Board.

“I applaud the city leadership for the example they have set in recognizing this important day in our collective American journey. North Miami Beach has set a standard that other local governments will hopefully follow, “Johnson said.

Juneteenth is an annual holiday that marks the end of slavery in the United States June 19, 1865when news of emancipation reached the deepest parts of the former confederation Galveston, Texas.
