Miami Seaside hosts the 13th annual Veterans Day celebration
Miami Beach will hold its 13th annual Veterans Day with a parade on Ocean Drive on Thursday morning.
Events officially begin at 11:11 am, coinciding with Veterans Day, November 11th. This year’s schedule marks a return to in-person events after last year’s Veterans Day celebration was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Such a move was common last year and led to more muted events nationwide.
However, in the past few weeks, Miami-Dade County has seen the lowest levels of COVID-19 Transfer rates the entire pandemic, which gives officials the confidence to hold another parade and face-to-face meeting.
Veterans Day is a holiday honoring all who have served in the military compared to the gritty Memorial Day, which honors the service members who lost their lives in service to their country.
The city of Miami Beach has special ties with WWII veterans. During this war, hotels in the area served as bases for soldiers.
“Many of the soldiers fell in love with our city and settled here after the war,” explains Miami Beach City Manager Alina Hudak.
the parade will run down Ocean Drive Thursday morning from 5th through 14th Streets. In addition to the parade, Miami Beach will also feature marching bands, community organizations, and performances by veterans and military groups.
The Miami Beach Police and Fire Department Honor Guards will also be holding a presentation of the colors. The program also includes the pledge of loyalty, the national anthem and a minute’s silence. Military officials from Southern Command and the US Coast Guard will also be speaking.
Once the parade ends, the city will host a performance by the All Veteran Parachute Team in Lummus Park. The park will also host a family picnic and wreath-laying ceremony in honor of the fallen.
More than 2,000 people have attended celebrations in the past.

This year is the first Veterans Week in Florida. During the 2020 session, the legislature approved a resolution to be adopted November 7-13 as the Veterans Week.
