Miami Seashore voters resolve to roll again Final Name – CBS Miami

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – One of the items that Miami Beach residents will be voting on Tuesday is whether to postpone the “final call for alcohol” in the South Beach entertainment district from currently 5 a.m. to 2 a.m.

There have been protests against the move in recent weeks. Bartenders, club owners, and hotel workers want to put the last call on hold at 5 a.m., arguing that moving would mean the loss of jobs and money.

“I think the economic impact would be catastrophic,” said MP Michael Grieco.

Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber said closing bars and clubs at 2 a.m. is the solution to reduce both property and violent crime in the entertainment district.

“Over 20 percent of the city’s total crime rate comes from within a two-block radius,” explains Gelber. “Honestly, the idea that these stores can’t survive if they’re not open all night is ridiculous.”
