Miami Seashore Mayor rips DeSantis up for responding to COVID-19
Speaking on CNN, Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber criticized Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) for his administration’s COVID-19 response.
“Look, honestly, at the start of this pandemic he did [DeSantis] was pretty good, ”said Gelber. “He promoted local control, he complimented us, we complimented him, he used me in some of his promotional videos where he said he was doing a good job, then he just realized it was a political opportunity, and then he spoke of a so-called “freedom, which of course is not the case.
“We need vaccines for children in school,” he added. “We demand that people do things that do not even endanger their neighbors or strangers. “
Gelber added that “the factor that contributed to this great tragedy” is that DeSantis did not treat the pandemic as “a health crisis or any other crisis like a hurricane when we all stand together and say the same thing to the public. “.
“He made it a corner problem. And if you make something a problem in a health crisis and divide the audience so that half the audience does one and the other does the other, then you get what we are getting at that moment, i.e. variations that are yet to come, ” he said.
