Miami Seashore is probably the most polluted standard seaside resort in the US
Given the quality of the water in Miami Beach, you might just want to stay on the sand.
Tourists flock to South Beach for the sun, sand, and ocean (and also to pose in front of the former Versace mansion). However, according to a new study, they may want to reconsider getting into the water.
UK retailer Myprotein, which sells sports nutrition products like diet supplements, protein powders and other health-promoting products that aren’t as fun as eating french fries, just released a report stating that South Beach is the most polluted popular seaside resort in the USA is
That doesn’t mean it is the most polluted body of water in the country. That’s probably a place in New Jersey. But it does mean that the occasional shark or kid over there who doesn’t make it to the bathroom in time aren’t your biggest problems when you decide to go for a swim in Miami Beach.
The report analyzed more than 1,500 of what Myprotein likes to call “wild swimming spots” in the US.
The study looked at Tripadvisor ratings for each location, including the number of reviews, to determine popularity, and then compared that to details of the water quality at each location using data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
And they found that South Beach’s water is the grossest. Social media could be wrong that it’s the best beach in the country.
Maybe just stay on the sand on these beaches. My protein
Other popular Florida beaches scored poorly on the worst water quality analysis: Clearwater (2), Fort Lauderdale (3), Siesta Beach (4), and Panama City Beach (7). The travel website Holidu recently reported that Siesta Key was the # 1 beach on every Florida bucket list. Maybe it’s time to reconsider.
The cleanest popular swimming spot is Waikiki Beach in Hawaii, followed by La Jolla Cove in California and Ka’anapali in Hawaii.
But wait! There are beaches in Florida with decent water quality, including some in (or near) the Florida Keys: Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park in Key West (4); John Pennecamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo (5); Fort Myers Beach (6); Dry Tortugas National Park west of Key West (7); St. Augustine Beach (10); and cocoa beach (12).
Swim here and feel completely clean. My protein
