Ceremony in honor of the daddy who was killed in entrance of the household in Miami Seashore – WSVN 7News | Miami Information, Climate, Sports activities

MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) – A ceremony was held in Miami Beach to honor a Colorado father who died protecting his family from an armed man while they were dining at a sidewalk cafe.

Dozens gathered across the street from La Cerveceria Tuesday, along the 1400 block of Ocean Drive, to pay tribute to 21-year-old Dustin Wakefield.

“The pain is like no other, along with the nightmare,” said a man reading a note from Wakefield’s mother. “It was a cold blooded murder, and the visions of it are heartbreaking. He was an angel on earth, a perfect son, husband and father. “

Those attending the ceremony could be seen holding flowers, praying, and singing songs as they surrounded Wakefield’s photo.

The 21-year-old’s family and friends said he bravely did what any father would after a stranger pointed a gun at his one-year-old son on Aug. 24.

“He did it to protect his son,” said cousin Sabrina Berlin.

“He was very attached to his family,” said family friend Vicky Furr. “He just adored his wife and really adored his son.”

A cell phone video showed the alleged killer, 22-year-old Tamarius Davis from Norcross, Georgia, who appeared to be dancing on the terrace of the restaurant shortly after the shooting. Another video showed him being arrested by police officers in Miami Beach in a nearby alley.

According to police, Davis told officers he was rich in mushrooms and randomly picked two men to shoot.

“I hope you can at least know that he will not be forgotten,” said the organizer of the vigil, Irene Bigger. “He was a stranger, but he wasn’t a stranger the day he was killed in our back yard.”

In a video obtained from the Miami Herald, Davis was apparently seen shooting another person near Ocean Drive just before he allegedly shot Wakefield.

“Is there an amount for the second degree fee?” Davis asked Miami-Dade District Court judge Mindy Glazer in Bond Court last week.

“It’s not a bond,” replied the judge. “You are being held without commitment. You shot someone in cold blood. “

For Wakefield’s friends and family, his legacy will forever be remembered.

“Death is always sad, but just knowing that it is absolute – there was no rhyme or reason, it just feels so pointless,” said family friend William Furr.

Davis, meanwhile, is charged with attempted second degree murder and second degree murder with a gun.
