Bodycam exhibits battery suspects put in handcuffs, together with man arrested 87 occasions in Miami Seaside – NBC 6 South Florida
Body camera footage captured the moments when two men, including one who has been arrested nearly 90 times in Miami Beach, were placed in handcuffs after allegedly battering a woman.
Christopher Martinez, 45, was charged with battery and unlawful possession of four or fewer identities, while Misael Vargas, 40, was charged with battery.
According to Miami Beach Police, on Thursday, officers arrived at 1901 Collins Avenue after receiving reports of a battery.
An arrest report said officers met with a victim, who gave a description of one of the suspects.
Body camera footage shows officers confronting Vargas, telling him to sit down as he argued with them. He was then placed in handcuffs.
After Vargas was arrested, the report said, officers met with the second victim, who told them she was on her way to work at a construction site when she was approached by Vargas and Martinez.
She said the two grabbed her, pushed, and she was sandwiched between the two and was grabbed all over, the report said.
The victim, the report said, then screamed, and the two let her go. Martinez then left the scene.
Body camera footage shows officers approaching Martinez, who appeared to have a bag of chips.
He was seen putting the bag down, putting his hands on his head, and being taken into custody.
Records showed that Martinez was previously convicted of battery, and he was arrested 87 times in Miami Beach, at least once in Wyoming, and about 90 times in Colorado
Miami Beach Police Chief Wayne A. Jones released the following statement:
“The safety of our community is our highest priority. I commend our officers for their swift and coordinated response that ensured accountability. The Miami Beach Police Department remains committed to protecting our community and will continue to respond decisively to any acts of violence.”
