AOC pictured maskless in Miami Beach as Omicron cases skyrocket

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) MP left the Big Apple for the benefit of sunny South Florida, which led supporters of the state’s Republican governor Ron DeSantis to hope that she “enjoyed a touch of freedom”.

The far-left “Squad” member was pictured picking up a cocktail and checking her phone with an unidentified companion at a table outside the Doraku Izakaya and Sushi restaurant in Miami Beach, according to images obtained from National Review and were released late Thursday.

Ocasio-Cortez’s winter vacation comes as New York City has a record number of COVID-19 cases due to the Omicron variant, with officials reporting more than 40,000 new infections on Thursday.

The city has also introduced strict mask and vaccination requirements for businesses.

In Florida, which is also seeing a surge in COVID cases, DeSantis signed a bill last month preventing companies from creating vaccine mandates unless employees can opt out.

Team DeSantis’ Twitter account quickly trolled Ocasio-Cortez about her visit to the Sunshine State.

We hope that, thanks to the leadership of @RonDeSantisFL, you will enjoy a breath of freedom here in the Sunshine State, ”said a post from late Thursday evening.

“PS We recommend the Rock Shrimp Roll and Aoki Tai next time you go out to eat out in Miami. Cheers! ”Read a follow-up tweet.

“Florida is so dangerous and scary that AOC decided this week to vacation in Miami,” tweeted DeSantis spokeswoman Christina Pushaw. “They know that it is a free state when even a democrat can enjoy cocktails without showing her papers or wearing a mask.”

“. @ AOC’s New York mindset clearly doesn’t mind being in the free state of Florida … mask-free, of course,” agreed Sunshine State Lieutenant Jeanette Núñez

Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, a native of Florida, tweeted that AOC’s travel choice was “interesting.”

“I guess she’s enjoying Florida’s freedom-loving utopia over her mandate-ridden New York!” Added McEnany, now co-host of Fox News lunchtime show “Outnumbered.”

Another Twitter user, @beyondreasdoubt, tweeted side-by-side pictures of lawmakers enjoying their meal and photos of NYC school kids having lunch on cold ground as part of COVID containment.

“If people on the left thought masks and vax passes were important to security, none of them would visit Florida,” wrote post-columnist and new Florida resident Karol Markowicz. “But so many of them do.”

In February, Ocasio-Cortez called on Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) to resign after taking his family on a trip to Cancun while Texas was in the midst of a deadly winter storm that cut millions of electricity.

“If Senator Cruz had resigned in January after helping spark a violent riot that killed several people, he could have had his vacation in peace,” she tweeted at the time. “Texans should continue to demand his resignation.”

Ocasio-Cortez shot back when Cruz made fun of AOC for commenting on the January 6th Capitol riot during a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando, Florida.

“I don’t care what Cruz said at CPAC, but I don’t care that Texas was just a stopover between Cancun and Orlando for him to throw a pack of water in someone’s trunk and let his constituents down again, when hit with them. “$ 16,000 utility bill,” she wrote on Twitter.

Ocasio-Cortez’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comments from The Post on Friday.
