The Mayor of Miami Seaside declares dancing NOW! Miami day
MIAMI, FL / ACCESSWIRE / October 29, 2021 / Dance now Miami has led the South Florida community through performances, innovative collaborations, education, and advocacy for 22 years. The dance company recently received a prestigious honor from Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber. Gelber has declared September 30, 2021 Dance NOW! Miami day.
Dance now in Cascais, Portugal
The company received this honor after its recent tour of Portugal and the collaboration with Dança em Diálogos and the Arte Institute from Lisbon. Dance Now was the first dance company to travel from Florida to Europe since the pandemic began. They represented Miami Beach with the Sister Cities International, the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce and Miami Dade County and presented a breathtaking performance in the Casino Estoril as part of the RHI Festival.
DNM and DeD performed “Anusim, What Is Hidden Is Never Lost,” a play inspired by the plight of the Jews in Portugal who endured the 1497 Inquisition. Dance NOW! worked with Dança em Diálogos for over a year, choreographed and practiced via Zoom and WhatsApp. The strategy was a great success and the intercultural performance was attended by numerous dignitaries, including Cascais Mayor Carlos Carreiras, Cascais Minister of Culture Salvato Telles de Menezes, and Acting US Ambassador Kristin M. Kane.

The company presents several large projects each year, including original works by the artistic directors created individually and in collaboration. Besides, theirs are Masterpiece in motion Series pays tribute to the rich legacy of dance by reconstructing historical works of ballet and modern dance of the 20th and 21st centuries (from Doris Humphrey to Isadora Duncan to Gerald Arpino / Joffrey Ballet). Dance now also presents Branded, immersive, site-specific performances that takes place in museums, galleries and architectural sites called the Ekphrasis projectthat combines different art forms with unique events. Dance now has worked with over 200 artists and organizations on a national and international level and the company leads the dance community in South Florida with initiatives like this Daniel Lewis dance sampler, Celebrate Florida’s established companies and choreographers in an annual fall showcase; and New voices, with choreographers from the national arena and the Florida audience with the latest trends in contemporary dance.

Dance NOW! has reached over 35,000 children in South Florida alone through their school residence, World Dance Summer Intensive, and performances throughout the community and from their home in the Little Haiti Cultural Complex. the dance NOW! Founded in 2019 in partnership with the Miami Arts Charter Dance Department, the Youth Ensemble provides performance, mentoring, and scholarship opportunities to some of the region’s most talented students.
During the COVID-19 crisis, Dance now led the dance community with the publication of the Covid (them) a series of dance video short films that are relevant to the moment and add new content to their audiences while continuing their artistic mission.

The concerts will feature 8 works by ensembles such as Ballet Vero Beach, Ballet Flamenco la Rosa, Arts Ballet Theater and others that open the season with short pieces and excerpts. It’s a great way for the audience to see what the dance season has to offer. “
The Daniel Lewis Dance Sampler is produced in collaboration with Miami Dance Futures, the Florda Dance Education Organization, Dance NOW! Miami, New World School of the Arts and Duncan Theater Palm Beach State College. Performances will take place on October 29 at the Duncan Theater and on October 30 and 31 at the New World School of the Arts Dance Theater.
