The North Miami Seaside Police Chief stays in workplace after assembly the town supervisor

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Florida. – The North Miami Beach Police Chief revoked his retirement just a day after it was issued.

Richard Rand said a meeting with city manager Arthur Sorey and the support of the community and other city guides convinced him to stay at the job.

“The city manager and I had a very productive meeting last night, at which he and the city officials pledged his full support,” said Rand, reading a prepared statement on Friday. “I believe that now we can move forward together to continue serving this great city.”

Rand abruptly filed the annuities Thursday morning, with the city’s mayor Anthony DeFillipo saying he felt Rand was being wrongly “micro-managed”.

That led to a meeting between Rand and Sorey. Both stood side by side as Rand read his statement on Friday.

Rand has only been the boss since February, but has been with the department for over 24 years

“I am not at liberty to discuss the details of my meeting with City Manager Sorey,” he said. “This is about my ability to run this police agency effectively, with the full support of city officials and the community. We owe it to the residents of this wonderful city to serve as guards for them, for this is the oath we take as police officers.

“Yesterday was an opportunity for us to come together and do the right thing for this community,” he continued. “The overwhelming support from City Manager Sorey, the Mayor and Commissioners, the media and, last but not least, from you, the community has encouraged me to keep my retirement letter so that I can proudly continue to run this incredible police agency as I did in February sworn in as your police chief. “

Residents of the North Miami Beach Jewish Community were especially outspoken after Local 10 spread the word of Rand’s plans to retire, and asked Sorey to tear up this letter and find a way to keep it.
