According to the report, officers responded to area of Lincoln Road and Washington Avenue regarding a male stabbed in the neck and found the victim was bleeding profusely from his neck.

He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center with a laceration to his neck that damaged the salivary and mandibular gland, the report said.

After undergoing surgery, he was in stable condition.

The victim, Halbert Thomas, said he was sleeping near Soundscape Park when he awoke to pain in his neck from being stabbed by the suspect, who said “there, gotcha,” after the stabbing, the report said.

A silver kitchen knife was found at the scene with blood on it, the report said.

Shortly after the stabbing, Datorre Rodriguez entered the Miami Beach Police Department saying he had stabbed someone in the neck, the report said.

Police body camera footage showed him arriving at the police station and speaking with an officer.

“I committed a couple felonies tonight and I just want to turn myself in,” he said in the video

Datorre Rodriguez told investigators he “had been thinking about stabbing someone for the past two or three days and wanted to carry it out,” adding that he “did not want to be a burden to his family and wanted a ‘change of scenery,’” the report said.

“The defendant believed that stabbing someone would send him to prison for a long time,” the report said. “The defendant said he wanted to stab a random person and had never interacted with the victim in the past.”

During the stabbing investigation, Datorre Rodriguez told a detective he had some images of child sexual abuse material that he had shared through Discord, the report said.

Police said cyber tips linked the materials to his IP address at his Miami Beach home.

Datorre Rodriguez also told officers that he has autism but was aware that what he was doing was wrong, the report said.

“Although he did admit to being on the spectrum, our detectives asked if his intentions were to commit harm and just like on the video, he was very forthcoming and very clear that his intentions were to stab someone and possibly kill them. And in his words, he didn’t care if the victim survived or not,” Miami Beach Police spokesman Christopher Bess said.

Datorre Rodriguez was booked into jail and later appeared fore a judge, who ordered him held without bond.
