Bond denied for man shot after charging at officers in North Miami Seashore with knife – NBC 6 South Florida

A man who was shot by a police officer in North Miami Beach faced a judge Saturday morning.

Roosevelt Joseph, 21, is facing several charges, including second-degree murder.

During his court appearance, a judge denied Joseph’s bond.

According to Miami Beach Police, the incident happened on Sept. 6 at the 600 block of 164th Street, after they received a call of a stabbing and found a man walking the street while carrying a knife.

When officers told the man to drop the knife, he refused and charged at officers, resulting in one of them discharging their weapon, police said.

“Our officers are trained to respond appropriately to deadly force, so this is a scenario where the officer did his job,” said an official.

Cellphone video shows the moments after the officer fired his weapon.

Police said the man was taken to the hospital in stable condition, but the victim was not found.

No officers were injured.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken over the investigation, which is standard whenever there is a police-involved shooting.
